Frequently Asked Questions
How do you decide what's listable?
Your eBird observations are cross-checked against the most recent version of the official Oregon checklist. "Slashes", "spuhs", hybrids, and domestic forms are excluded (but not subspecies intergrades). First Oregon records since the last published checklist will be excluded, but your results will let you know if that's a possibility. I'm not attempting to address any subtleties around introduced populations of species which might be listable in some locations but not others in the state.
What about Northern Bobwhites?
So, yeah, this one is tricky. Northern Bobwhite is on the Oregon checklist as an extirpated species as of 2003, although infrequent observations of presumed escapees continue to this day. I have elected to not count any Bobwhite observations regardless of year, but again your results will indicate this in case you need to update your counts.
Can you generate my yard / patch / motorless / circle numbers?
Unfortunately, no. As far as I know, eBird does not provide any way to export your yard or patch data, so you'll need to make adjustments for any non-countable birds yourself. If there's significant interest, I could probably add support for 5/15 mile circles.
